Food Glorious Food

20th February 2015

We may  be closed to the public but there is plenty going on here in the farmhouse. I have just drowned myself in information, recipes and cook books. I am quite literally dripping with information about food allergies. It's a great thing these new government imposed rules for those of you that have allergies or intolerances and I'm pretty pleased I can now tell you the difference between a shellfish and a mollusc- Did you know Worcester sauce has anchovies in it? Did you know Nescafe gold blend isn't suitable for vegans? Fascinating!!

We`ve got terribly organised and have put together folders for each of the foodie evenings, Spanish, Moroccan, Mexican and next up, Greek. Recipe testing must be one of my favourite things and I think the staff at the Alford are loving when I come down with excess goodies like chocolate truffles for them to scoff. Tonight I am making Enchiladas as a practice for Mexican night, Yum!

Simon has been out every day (weather permitting) pruning and pruning and more pruning and last week (you may have seen on Twitter) we tasted the new vintages and agreed on levels of sweetness for each of the batches- we are pretty excited about these. Flabbergasted to find out that 1 dried apricot contains as many sulphites as 10 glasses of wine!

On to open day planning now, all these dates for the diary are stacking up!
